A Letter from our VP of Membership Recruitment

Hey! My name is Cammille Hagan, and I am the Vice President of Membership Recruitment for Alpha Phi at Akron. When I came to college, I originally felt very alone and wasn’t sure how to make new friends. I even considered dropping out or transferring, until I signed up for formal sorority recruitment. As cheesy as it sounds, I really did find myself and my forever friends when I joined Alpha Phi. Joining a sorority was the best choice I’ve ever made, and has allowed me opportunities to help my skills in leadership, service, and academic growth. I would encourage anyone considering joining a sorority to at least sign up for recruitment and see how you like it. College will make you try new things and be out of your comfort zone, and this is one you wont regret. Go Greek, Go Zips!

What is Formal Recruitment?

Formal recruitment is a Virtual weekend process that consists of multiple rounds to meet all 6 of our Panhellenic sororities on The University of Akron’s campus. If you finish the process of recruitment you can potentially join a chapter if a membership bid is accepted

What is the Formal Recruitment process like?

To first be able to go through the recruitment process you must first sign up! From there you are put into a group of other women who are also going through the recruitment process along with 2-3 recruitment guides (an active sorority member) to help guide you through the weekend.

  • Friday: Sisterhood Round

Sisterhood Round is where you will learn the general information about each sorority on campus. Dress code for this round is cute and casual.

  • Saturday: Philanthropy Round

Philanthropy round is where you learn more in-depth about what it’s like to be apart of each chapter’s sisterhood. Dress code for this round is dressy.

  • Sunday Morning: Preference Round

Preference round is where you will connect with the chapters in a deeper level. Here you will gain insight on their values and rituals. Dress code for this round is professional/ something you would wear to a wedding.

  • Sunday Night: Bid Night

Chapters will now offer membership bids to potential new members, if the bid is accepted, the potential new member will then run home to their chosen chapter to attend a bid day celebration with their new sisters!
