Philanthropy

The Alpha Phi Foundation

Since the foundation was created in 1956, the women of Alpha Phi have strived to raise money for the three important areas that make up the foundation:

  • Cardiac Care: Money is raised to fund research to better women's heart health.

  • Forget-Me-Not Fund: This special fund is designed for sisters at any point in their life who need assistance during a time of financial distress.

  • Scholarship: Alpha Phi supports sisters who need financial assistance with school by creating special scholarships.

Our contribution

At The University of Akron, we host two major philanthropy events that raise money for The Alpha Phi Foundation. Our two major events are:

  • Go Red week: Go Red week is held during the week leading up to our Red Dress Gala in fall semester. Throughout the course of this week we hold events like Candy Grams, Pie-A-Phi, Penny wars, and Nacho Phis or Wing PHIver. These events allow us to get our fellow students of the University of Akron involved as well as members from the other chapters we have on campus while raising money and awareness for an amazing cause!

  • Red Dress Gala: Our Red Dress Gala is our formal banquet that we host every spring. Family, friends, alumni, and other Greek Life members are invited to join us for the evening. We enjoy dinner, dancing, a silent auction, and an evening acknowledging why our organization exists. During our Red Dress Gala of Spring 2020, we were able to raise a total of $11,000 for the foundation.
